MEN OUT LOUD

Stonewall News Northwest -- July 1977

"Men Out Loud mixes pop, doo wop, and R&B in new a cappella album. Pure/Mercury Records announces the album release of Men Out Loud, the West Hollywood-based openly gay a cappella quartet.

In their debut, Men Out Loud perform several songs with musical accompaniment, an experiment that highlights their strong vocal arrangements and range. Favorite tunes the group chooses to stylize include a rendition of Madonna's "Express Yourself," a tongue-in-cheek version of "More Than A Woman," off the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack, and a poignant "Empty Chairs At Empty Tables"  (Les Miserables), dedicated to the memory of loved ones who have died of AIDS.

They return to the traditional a cappella format with the rollicking "Yesterday," "Good Lovin' " and "Moondance." Santo Ragno, Joseph pearce, Rob McElroy and Steve Steinberg deftly mix pop, doo wop, and R&B into a hip a cappella formula."
